See the possibilities…

See the possibilities… Tomorrow I will deliver a speech that ‘Uplifts the Spirit’ which is actually my final project in pursuit of my Advanced Communicator Silver Award with Toastmasters International Wooohoo! With COVID-19 affecting us all we all need some sort of encouragement and message of hope. What’s the NUMBER ONE thing we all crave at this time? COMPANY. There is no end to media messages on social distancing bombarding the airwaves. While the term is politically correct it conjures up messages of isolation and solitude for many; an end to activating their social calendar that is dependent on or rather thrives in the realm of the outdoors where COVID is lurking. For the Generation Z cohort this is the life! More time to be online and be social and connect with their hundreds or thousands of friends via instagram, snapchat and facebook. No school commute = no need to bathe and get dressed early. For the Millennials, Generations X & Y this time at home can be daunting and somewhat lonely especially if one is not accustomed spending time alone except when at sleep. In reality we need to embrace this moment this season where nature cleanses itself: where the seas renew and the air gets a chance to breathe. Why? The answer is simple this season will not last forever life on earth is cyclical and seasonal.

This season is NOT real isolation…. Think about it. Are you in prison wearing a number like 4664? Nelson Mandela taught us that in real isolation and solitary confinement we can find something to do, somewhere to challenge our thoughts…have you studied the ant colony? Have you ever read the complete works of Shakespeare? Hardship and discomfort teach us some of the greatest lessons in life.

There is nothing new under the sun and it has been established that there will always be seed time and harvest time. I challenge you to identify the season you are in…are you harvesting lost sleep and renewed self care. Are you repairing and birthing fresh sparks to relationships with those at home or in your circle? Or are you investing some of that deferred loan payment into learning something new, starting that DIY project, or even giving to someone else who needs it more than you do? Are you transforming that getting dressed and commute time into nurturing your relationship with the Creator? Faith builds hope. Hope opens up new ideas for innovation and creative exploration. This is the time to assess the quality of your presence in your relationships at home, school, work or in your circle & community. Make the effort to have a coffee chat via whatsapp or zoom with friends or family members…do a watch party…play online games together or if you are content with Siri pick a topic and debate her on it. I caution you not to linger on the thoughts of when this current circumstance will end or why this is happening or what will the new normal be? Swim against the tide and create your own Nylon Pool where all your dreams come true and you experience that saltwater rebirth among the coral.

Quit the moaning and start planning and writing down all the NEW things you will do when this passes, as well as how you will make this season work for you. T’is time to learn to discipline oneself amidst the comforts at home and study or learn to apply mindfulness to zone out distractions and experience new levels of mental and intellectual engagement. Food may be low. Well then learn to enjoy the benefits of fasting!….Yes! Fasting and eating less..YOU WILL SURVIVE! So as you go through this period enjoy it, do not endure it, engage in responsible hygiene so that we preserve our neighbours and ourselves. Physical distancing helps curtail the spread of the virus. Practice social inclusion and immersion. More than ever let us connect with each other as we engage in the global fight for the preservation of life…our humanity. Be encouraged.

CONDITION YOUR MIND to hear the message ‘physical distancing’ and up your social game! #lovewins
